What are your impressions on the boy and the children?

Children

The impression that the children gave me is that they are rather selfish. They only play in their own cliques and never paused to invite the boy to play with them. In my opinion, they should have tried to make friends with the boy. From the quote "we pass him by but never speak" and "In slow huddled groups, low talking", I can tell that the children never tried to make friends with him nor invite him to play with them. Also, from the quote " and never plays", it tells me that he kept on returning to the playground but never plays because the children had never once invited him. They should not just stay in the own cliques and just ignore the loner as if he had never existed. They should be more friendly to the boy and at least try to invite him to play with them instead of whispering to each other and talking about the boy behind his back.

The boy(loner)

The boy gave me the impression that he is somehow feels insecure as he always stays leaning against the wall all the time as if he was backing away from something. It seems that the wall might very well be his emotional support and it gives him a sense of security. I think this may be because he had suffered some emotional setbacks before, thus, when he wants to join the other children to play, he hesitates and just stays at the wall watching them play happily while he envy them from the wall. In my opnion, I think he should make more friends as they may be able to somehow help him.
From the quote "his loneliness is his shell and shield", it tells me that he has somehow become immune to whatever hurts him by staying lonely. He was always looking at the other children play but never speaks to them, it tells me that he is a an introvert and never makes friends because of his personality.
