What are your impressions on the boy and the children?

Children
The impression that the children gave me is that they are rather selfish. They only play in their own cliques and never paused to invite the boy to play with them. In my opinion, they should have tried to make friends with the boy. From the quote "we pass him by but never speak" and "In slow huddled groups, low talking", I can tell that the children never tried to make friends with him nor invite him to play with them. Also, from the quote " and never plays", it tells me that he kept on returning to the playground but never plays because the children had never once invited him. They should not just stay in the own cliques and just ignore the loner as if he had never existed. They should be more friendly to the boy and at least try to invite him to play with them instead of whispering to each other and talking about the boy behind his back.
The boy(loner)
The boy gave me the impression that he is somehow feels insecure as he always stays leaning against the wall all the time as if he was backing away from something. It seems that the wall might very well be his emotional support and it gives him a sense of security. I think this may be because he had suffered some emotional setbacks before, thus, when he wants to join the other children to play, he hesitates and just stays at the wall watching them play happily while he envy them from the wall. In my opnion, I think he should make more friends as they may be able to somehow help him.
From the quote "his loneliness is his shell and shield", it tells me that he has somehow become immune to whatever hurts him by staying lonely. He was always looking at the other children play but never speaks to them, it tells me that he is a an introvert and never makes friends because of his personality.

Why I sympathize Jack and the Giant?
Monday, July 13, 2009
Write one paragraph each for why Jack and the Giant both deserve our sympathy.
Why do I sympathize Jack?
From my point of view, I sympathize Jack because he came from a poor family and had only her mother to live with as he did not have a father. They could only depend on their cow, Milky, to produce milk for a living. They have no extra incomes from work as Jack is too young to work and his mother needs to take care of him. When Milky could not produce milk anymore, they had to sell their cow to continue to live. They were so that when the beans grew, Jack had to resort to stealing the Giant’s valuables, risking his life while he did that as the Giant eats boys and could sniff out the scent of their blood in order for his poor mother and himself to continue to live peacefully as they had no other way to survive since none of them have jobs. I pity them as if Jack did not exchange their cow for the beans, they would have died of thirst and hunger.
Why do I sympathize the Giant?
I sympathize the Giant he died a terrible death. Although he eats young boys and is very greedy, he does not deserve that kind of fate. He did not even have a clue of who had stolen his valuables. He must have very clueless and upset as he discovered that he kept on losing his valuables after his nap, as if he did not care about his valuables, the golden hen and the golden harp would not have screamed to wake him up to save them when Jack had taken them away from their master. So when he found out it was Jack who had stolen it, despite his instincts, he still climbed down the beanstalk just to get his golden harp back. But his attempt failed terribly as Jack chopped the beanstalk before his legs could even touch the ground and broke the crown of his head while Jack continued to lead a happy life.

Literature homework-What have you learnt from this lesson?
Monday, July 6, 2009
I have learnt the true meaning of the phrase’ Do not judge a book by its cover’. From this lesson, I have learnt not to judge a person by only how he looks like. I also have to judge a person through their speech or their thoughts, their relationships with others, actions and their backgrounds.

Literature homework- Do I sympathise the Joker?
I do not sympathise with the Joker as he misused his positive traits (cleverness) to commit crimes, threatening the lives of innocent people living in Gotham City. Although he was abused by his father as a child and had a bad childhood, it is no excuse for his behaviour. That shows that he is a rather heartless and despicable person.
The reason I do not sympathizing the Joker is because he is a law breaker as he rob banks. He robbed banks because of his greed for money. The other reason is because his desire is to upset social order through terrorism in Gotham City, which threatens the lives of people living in Gotham City. He is also very cruel as he leaves his victims with post-mortem smiles, with the use of a knife instead of chemical manipulation.
Although he had a bad childhood life and also was abused by his father, he should not find that as an excuse to treat other people that way. In another version of the story, it is said that the Joker was not actually always smiling, but it is because his father had used a knife to cut his mouth, making hi seem like he is always smiling. I think maybe it is the way of how his father had treated him that had influenced him to behave like how he is today. It is said that he is working to support his pregnant wife and his unborned child. How he is acting like today does not seem like his selfless self at all. But although it may be that the chemical manipulation that had caused him to commit crimes, I still do not sympathise him.
Overall, I do not sympathise the Joker because of all his wrongdoings despite his pitiful and horrible backgrounds. I think he should just let go of the past and move on with his life.
